The Adani Group is preparing for one of its largest digital infrastructure investments yet, with plans to deploy up to $5 billion in support of Google’s upcoming AI data centre campus in India. The development follows Google parent Alphabet’s announcement of a $15-billion, five-year investment to build an advanced artificial intelligence data hub in Andhra Pradesh – the company’s single largest commitment in India to date.
The surge in global AI adoption has sharply increased demand for high-density, high-power data centres capable of hosting thousands of interconnected compute chips. According to Adani Group Chief Financial Officer Jugeshinder Singh, the Google-led project could significantly scale up Adani Connex, the joint venture between Adani Enterprises and data-centre operator EdgeConneX.
“It’s not just Google — there are a lot of parties interested in working with us, especially as data centre capacity reaches gigawatt levels and beyond,” Singh told reporters.
Tech Giants Race to Build AI-Ready Infrastructure
Google has allocated approximately $85 billion this year worldwide to expand its data-centre footprint, joining a rapidly intensifying race among Indian and global technology firms to build infrastructure capable of supporting large-scale AI workloads. India’s leading business magnates — including Gautam Adani and Mukesh Ambani — have already committed to accelerating data-centre investments across the country as digital demand soars.
Visakhapatnam Set to Become an AI Infrastructure Hub
Central to Google’s India strategy is the establishment of the Visakhapatnam AI data-centre campus, which will begin operations with a 1-gigawatt power capacity. Once live, it will rank among the largest AI-focused data-centre facilities in Asia, reinforcing India’s importance as a future global hub for AI computing.
